The World is Not Flat: Conducing Multi-Language Surveys

As Thomas Friedman taught us, The World Is Not Flat. We operate in a global economy. As such, we’re often required to field surveys in multiple languages. Creating surveys in languages other than English is not a new Cvent feature. In fact, Cvent Web Survey users have been able to do this for a few years. But we’re about to completely change the way reporting on multi-language surveys works.

In the next Cvent Web Surveys release, you will no longer need to build multiple versions of the same survey: one for each language like you did in the past. Instead, you’ll be able to truly localize the online survey experience by creating a single survey that can be completed in multiple languages. When creating a multi-language survey in Cvent, you’ll have the option to allow respondents to select their own language or have Cvent seamlessly detect the preferred language based on browser settings. We know from other survey best practices, this helps keep the experience relevant to the respondent, which in turn will help reduce survey abandonment rates.

Creating multiple language surveys is often a team effort, so being able to import and export survey text (including error messages!) is critical. If you’re the primary lead on the survey, you’ll be able to build the survey, export the survey text to send it to the person doing your translation – whether that person is in house or a third party translation service – and easily import the translated text. Once the data collection is completed, you'll have closed-loop reporting for easier data analysis.
