Test Your Online Questionnaire In Multiple Browsers With Common Settings

Last week, I gave you a checklist of things to look for when your online survey questionnaire is in test mode. While some of those tips seem obvious, such as spell checking your survey form, they may be over looked because they're too obvious.

Here's another that gets over looked a lot: testing your
online questionnaire in multiple browsers.

Test Online Survey Questionnaires In Different Browsers

Be sure to take that a step further, and test with different settings turned on and off. While most internet users are still attached to internet explorer, lots of people (aka your survey respondents) are using other browsers: Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Apple's Safari, etc. It may seem like more work, but it's important to test your survey in different types of browsers. Not all browsers will render the survey, the graphical template, question options in the same way - no matter which online survey software solution you're using.

Test the most popular extensions and addons. For example, many Firefox users also use Ad Block - does your survey look right if you turn on Ad Block? I know this may seem obvious to some, but to others it's easily over looked. I recently came across a survey that didn't work in Firefox. I'm sure it was an issue with the online survey software company and not the questionnaire, but I had to figure out a different way to answer the survey (I just switched browsers). The point is, it was more work for me, the respondent. You never want to make it any harder for a survey respondent to complete your survey beyond a simple "Click Here." What would happen if you were surveying a list of Apple clients and your survey only worked in IE? You can bet the responses you did get would not be representative on the whole. Make it easy to respond.

What extensions and addons would you suggest testing with your online survey questionnaire before launch?
