Example Survey Email InvitationWe've given you tips to boost the deliverability of your email survey invitations in the past, but getting invitees to click the magical "Complete this Survey" button can be a real challenge. Most marketers have less than eight seconds to convince recipients to click through an email.

When creating your survey invitation, it's important to make it graphically appealing, but don't get too carried away. About 80% of your recipients will view your email using a preview pane, this means you need to let recipients what you want them to do (take your online survey) immediately.

Here are six points you should cover in your email marketing:

Introduction: Why are you contacting them?
"Your opinion matters to us!"

Importance of Participation: Why should they complete the online questionnaire?
"Your feedback will help us provide you with a higher quality of service."

Subject of the Web Survey: What's the survey about?
"This questionnaire examines your thoughts on the car industry."

Survey Length: How long will the survey take?
"This five minute survey..."

Incentives: Are there incentives? What are they? How do respondents get them?
"Respondents will receive a complimentary copy of the survey report."

Confidentiality: Is the survey anonymous? Will you sell respondent contact information? It's important not to lie. It may be tempting to say "Your answers will be aggregated and will not be linked to you personally," but if you plan to use responses to identify customers you'd like to speak with, you're not planning to just aggregate the answers.

Like with your online surveys, remember to keep emails short and simple. There is no easy formula to follow to ensure your email marketing results in the open and response rates you're looking for. One email or subject line that works well this time, may not work next time. To help get the best results, it's important to always test your messaging when you test your web survey.
