Offer Anonymity to Get Honesty

Wednesday, December 31, 2008 by Cvent Survey Staff
When requesting feedback on training programs, management directives, job satisfaction, etc., it's not uncommon to find a few respondents who are less than willing to share their honest opinions. After all, would you want to tell your boss that you think his weekly meetings are boring and a waste of time? Probably not—but it's that kind of honest feedback you need to get an accurate analysis from your survey.

The best way to ensure you get honest answers in a survey where respondents may fear recrimination based on their answers is to create an anonymous survey.
In an anonymous survey, a respondent can take the survey without entering his or her name or contact information. You will not collect this data, and thus responses will not be matched in any way to the respondent.

Using a comprehensive web survey solution such as Cvent, it's easy to make your surveys anonymous. Just click "Anonymous Survey" in response to "What type of survey is this?" as your create your survey.

Anonymous Survey

In your survey invitation, make sure to point out that the survey will be anonymous. Reassure your respondents that responses will not be linked in any way to their names. Once your respondents feel comfortable that they can answer without pressure, your survey data will truly reflect what is on their minds.
