Introducing a New Question Type: Matrix Spreadsheet

Friday, April 10, 2009 by Sherrie Mersdorf
Last weekend as part of the April 2009 Web Survey Release, we added two new question types: Matrix - Spreadsheet and Net Promoter Score. Since the Net Promoter Score can be more complicate, I'll save that question type for another post.

Example Matrix Spreadsheet Online Survey Question

From the name, I'm sure you can tell the Matrix - Spreadsheet question is a matrix style question type. Matrix - Spreadsheet questions allow respondents to fill in comment boxes for each category and answer option combinations. In the set up of the question, the survey creator can specify the formatting of the comment fields. The options are the same as with a one line text box: general, number, currency, decimal, phone number email address. As an aside, I should point out that being able to format one line text boxes to require phone number or email address is also new!

With this added capability, surveyors are now able to collect more information from respondents. Prior to the new release, matrix questions were limited to single and multiple choice.
