Building an Effective Customer Survey

Thursday, October 9, 2008 by Cvent Survey Staff
Getting qualified responses to your customer survey isn’t always about the questions themselves. Though your survey content may be established, keep in mind the following suggestions as you construct your survey.

Identify yourself. Customers like to know who they are sharing information with, especially when the information is personal. Give respondents assurance of your intentions for an honest result. If necessary, offer the option of anonymity to respondents.

Establish a goal. Customers like to know that their responses will be put to good use. A stated goal lets respondents know that their feedback is worth the effort.

Respect their time. Nothing is more frustrating than getting “trapped” in a customer survey that never ends. Use surveys that employ advanced logic based on a respondent's answers. If a question does not apply to them, advanced logic will allow respondents to skip ahead to questions that do matter, saving time and irritation.

Remember to say “Thank you.” Kindness is infectious. Let respondents know you appreciate their input. They'll be more likely to take the time to provide open, honest feedback on your survey.

With just a few easy changes in your survey approach, you can gather quick, accurate feedback from your customers.
